What, no VED fallout?

Welcome to the Thursday casting the net. Surprisingly there is no analysis I can find of yesterdays Finance Bill vote. This is ok though as you should be able to check back at my blog site after 6pm and see my analysis of what I thought was an all round shoddy debate. Meanwhile, on to the good stuff, as always more links will be posted shortly on my site, and links can be sent to us at tips[at]liberalconspiracy[dot]org.

OurKingdom - Anthony Barnett asks what is next for those that are interested in democracy with the H&H by-election looming. Make sure you put aside 30 minutes to read this!
Crooked Timber - Henry wonders about the impact of blogs and participation on them in the political process amongst other things. A truly interesting article that doesn’t come around often.
The Yorkshire Gob - Jennie was one of the first to comment on the Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s poverty findings, and is actually not doing too bad in her impoverished state, thankyouverymuch.
Obsolete - There is a darker side to CiF, and this analysis of the treatment of Majid Ahmed (refused entry to Imperial because of a theft conviction) on the site shows it plain as day.

Eastcliff Matters - Domestic abuse is gaining a resurgence on peoples “top issues” list, unless of course you’re a cabinet minister.
Liberal Burblings - Shock horror, Labour MP doesn’t know how to respond to criticism.
Remembering the Ability in Disability - Sarah quite rightfully asks why we have a culture of compensating when that money could be spent preventing in health care.

Casting Back:
Political Betting - There once was a time when Cameron wasn’t the apple of the pollsters eyes, could this be the best decisions the Tories ever made for themselves?

My analysis of yesterdays Finance Bill debate, really is a shame no-one else seemed to see it or care about writing about it. It was an amazing show of what I now like to call the “David Lammy rhetoric”.

Lee,

I think Anthony Barnetts’ comments deserve a post of their own. Frankly, that is what I believe in. And I’d be astonished if most Liberal Conspirators thought otherwise. Anonymous - err, me - suggested that it should be cross posted here. Quite apart from the fact that it would make Unity look abrupt!

Is it bad that I now have a sneaking admiration for David Clelland for at least talking straight?

Haha, I definitely know what you mean. I don’t appreciate his tone, but it reminds me of the first letter I got from my MP, I accused him of towing the party line too often when I was particularly aggravated. He wrote back and, well…put me straight basically…but he did so in a way that didn’t close down the communication. I’m definitely realising that perhaps my MP isn’t as bad as I though he was to begin with.
